Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Apple Master Apple Peeler, Corer, and Slicer, Colors VaryCustomer Review: Super gadget Summary: 5 Stars
Being originally from New England, I knew about this "old fashioned" kitchen tool but never owned one until I came upon one for sale at half-price in a discount dept. store. For twelve bucks, it was worth the gamble. It has turned out to be one of the best kitchen tools I've ever owned. Nothing to break, nothing to plug in, solid metal mechanics, it's great. Right out of the box, all you have to do is screw on the wood handle. There is a little learning curve when you start with your first apple, but after that, you're a pro; it's that easy. Within a few seconds, you've peeled, spiral-sliced, and cored an entire apple; after removing it from the machine, you slice it twice and you have perfect-sized slices for a pie, cobbler, or just for eating. If the apple is weirdly-shaped, then you might have a bit of apple peel left on the apple, but other than that, this device gets the job done far better and way faster than you could do it by hand. I have the suction-cup mount, and on my granite countertop it will lose suction after a bit, but I just hold the base with one hand and crank with the other. Clean-up is easy; just a very thorough rinse followed by a good long air dry before putting it away. I loved mine so much I bought 2 more from Amazon for Christmas presents.
Customer Review: Why did I wait so long? Summary: 5 Stars
I always go through a lot of apples in the latter part of the year. I dehydrate apples, make applesauce, apple cake, and freeze slices for pie. It was taking me a long time to peel, cut and core apples for different projects. Although I love apple treats, the prep time was finally too much. Yesterday, I bought the Norpro Apple Master Model 866R. I hooked it up, and was amazed. In lightening speed, I had peeled, cut and cored 12 apples in less than 10 minutes! It is capable of 3 different options:
1) Pare, Core and Slice,
2) Core and slice only,
3) Pare only and has a sharp stainless steel blade.
It is also compatible for potatoes. The instruction booklet is easy to follow. The suction base is strong, and works on my coffee table so I can work and watch a movie at the same time. The slices are uniform in size, essential for dehydrating and baking for even doneness.
This gadget will save you time and energy. I highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought my first gadget over 35 years ago and finally wore out the handle. I didn't realize how often I used it until I started missing it. For one apple I might not set it up, but for two or more it is the bomb! Love it for desserts, and now that I have grandkids they love the slices and they like to help. My first peeler only had a clamp which was a problem, the suction cup works better for me. Of all the devices that have come and gone in my kitchen, this is one I use. I like the uniform slices although at times I'd like thicker slices. I would like to hear from a few creative people who have used the machine for fun stuff. I make a baked apple dessert that calls for the apples to be cut in half. I allow the machine to slice the apple but I keep the shape in tact. The apples cook uniformly, the sauce penetrates, and the dessert is easier to eat because the apples have been sliced.
Customer Review: Over 20 years of Apple Master Summary: 5 Stars
I don't recall how long I've had my Apple Master, but it must be over 20 years. My model only screws on a table, there is no rubber mount. I make a lot of apple deserts in the fall and can pare, slice and core an apple in less than a minute. I try to use the classic Northern Spy since it taste great and is so huge that 4 or 5 will make a pie. Yes, the core is so big that some seeds may be left, but they are easily cut out. I haven't noticed the thin slice issue and like the ability to use one, two or three of the modes as needed. Incidentally, it peels so fast that microdrops of juice shoot into the air and I prefer to use it outside or cover it with a towel inside to avoid sticky floors. It rinses off in a flash and dries without rusting, but the screw threads should get a vegetable oil rub every year.
Customer Review: fast and fun! Summary: 5 Stars
I am so happy with this time saving Item! I used to peel the apple, then core it and slice it which took about 3 minutes an apple. Now it's 30 seconds tops!! I dry apples and It has cut the time so much in preparing them for drying, that I do way more apples now. I sometimes have to finish peeling the end of an apple but I don't fault it for that; it's still a time saver for sure. Be sure to wash it thoroughly before putting it away. I noticed a screw is trying to rust and I think I wasn't being thorough enough in cleaning it.
