Despite what it says in the Amazon description, this model CANNOT core without slicing. According to the email I received from the manufacturer:
"I am sorry but the 865 does not core only. We sell a coring attachment for the #864 or 861 and those are the only units it will fit."
Customer Review: Didn't hold up, one part failed after another

I bought this peeler/corer/slicer at a local orchard to help me process sliced apples for freezing and canning. While it worked, it was very helpful in doing all three in one go. But, there were problems with it breaking, as well as with its operation even when all parts were functioning.
If apples were not the right hardness (i.e. if they were too soft), the cord would often break off partway through peeling the apple. This meant that the remainder of the apple would have to be cored, peeled and sliced by hand.
After only a small amount of use, I had trouble with the rubber seal not staying in place, which made the rod the apple is mounted on wobble whenever it slipped. Still, I was willing to deal with slipping this back in place since it was still helpful with most apples.
Then the vacuum base stopping working well, even with putting water on the table as suggested. Finally it failed entirely.
Also, the mounted corer started having trouble staying in place and would get pushed to the side as it passed through the apple. This resulted in only removing part of the core being removed.
In all, this was only used over a period of 2-3 years on 2 or 3 bushels of apples before there began to be significant problems with it. This just is not a quality product, and I cannot recommend it.

I recently bought a Norpro Apple Peeler, Slicer & Corer from a local apple orchard figuring that they would carry a top-notch device but I was poorly mistaken by this device.
I will be trying to return it to the orchard with the hopes that they will take my complaint about this product seriously enough to issue a refund and remove the remaining products from the shelf to keep from disappointing customers. I happen to know better of the products available and will be buying another Progressive brand. Please do not contact me to try to convince me otherwise until the product has been revamped.
Slices too thin (1/16" instead of 1/8" to 3/16") for dehydrating, poor slicing of skin (skin was jagged and pulling off), poor looking cutting/coring part (looks like my brother made it in the garage).
I did not use the peeler part of the device as I actually like the skin on my dehydrated apples.
I will be contacting the manufacturer and the orchard from which I bought it.
Never again with Norpro.
I wouldn't even rate it 1 star but that is as low as it will go.

No matter how fresh and crisp the apples, this simply will not work correctly. I had one years ago and loved it - i believe it was the same brand. I can't keep the apple straight without holding it with one hand as I try to use the handle and it gouges instead of peeling the skin. I honestly believe it's put together wrong. It's going back. I don't want to deal with it.
