Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Norpro 14 Inch x 12 Inch Stainless Steel Cookie SheetCustomer Review: Only for Cookies Summary: 3 Stars
I've had my pan for several years. It is not easy to clean. One of our first uses was for baked French toast. We pulled the pan out, the toast stuck and forever the outline of each shape remained on the pan, no matter how well we cleaned. Now it's old enough and the top has darkened so you can't see them.
The other concern I have with this product is that if you need any oil or cooking spray, the cut-out corner and the edge that doesn't have a lip lets oil drip into your oven, which is a fire hazard. I'm puzzled why bakers believe that design improves air flow so greatly and improves cookies so much.
I won't buy another because this pan isn't multi-functional enough but I will continue to use the one I have for cookies only (but don't serious cookie bakers reserve their cookie pans like that?).
Customer Review: Love the cookie sheet. Hate the glue! Summary: 3 Stars
Great cookie sheet, but I hate the glue they used to put on the label. It does not come off unless you buy
a special product. Seems absolutely ridiculous to have to buy a special product to remove the sticker, which makes the cookie sheet more expensive. I did not know this at the time, and tried to remove it the usual ways - soap and water, then a standard kitchen spray, then 409. Nothing worked. Long story short. I have a really ugly mark on my pan where the glue was. It's very disappointing to buy something new and have it look like this.
On the up side, I do like the pan.
Customer Review: Somewhat thin but cooks cookies Summary: 3 Stars
I don't have many other stainless pieces to compare it to. It's just barely thick enough to not bend very much. Cleans up very easily. Seems to cook cookies just fine.
Customer Review: Wish I'd paid the extra ten bucks for that other brand. Summary: 2 Stars
Before I bought this cookie sheet, I noticed a couple other reviews about some "glue" being tough to get off. This didn't sound like a big deal to me - how hard could it really be to get rid of a little adhesive? Well, my cookie sheet arrived, and I saw that yes, there was a paper label attached to the sheet with a blob of glue right in the middle... and I've now wasted more than an hour trying to get that "blob" to come off the pan. First I tried scrubbing it with dish soap and hot water, but that just spread the adhesive into a wider patch on my pan. A friend advised using vinegar and baking soda so I tried that - no good. Someone else said to use alcohol - that didn't work either. The last piece of advice I got, the best so far, was to use Vaseline (strangely enough). The Vaseline got rid of MOST of the adhesive - but I'm still left with an ugly mark in the middle of the pan, and the metal around that mark is all scuffed up from the scouring pad I had used.
Another thing I noticed when I received the baking sheet was that there was some "crusty" stuff (spilled adhesive??) along 2 of the sides/edges. I can't get this stuff off either - I guess it's not as big of a deal because it won't come into contact with baked goods, but it's not what you'd expect of a brand new product.
Overall, I'm irritated because I bought this cookie sheet to avoid toxic chemicals from those non-stick/teflon products, but ended up getting this insanely indestructible adhesive anyway, that I'm sure isn't safe to bake. (I did end up making cookies that day, after covering up the adhesive splotch with a piece of foil. The cookies came out the same way they did on my regular aluminum jelly roll sheets, so I'm not sure what makes this pan "special" for cookies.) It also makes me a little paranoid that this pan is made in China, when China's track record has been pretty sketchy when it comes to using unsafe materials. I am now thinking of buying this pan, which is made in the USA: http://www.amazon.com/American-Kitchen-Stainless-Steel-Cookie/dp/B002T44Z0Q/
