How many diets specify 1 cup or 1/2 cup of something? Here's how I use these well-loved measuring cup/spoons to lose weight. Some of my diet problems have been caused by my inability to guess the correct amount--I usually underestimate a portion size, but thanks to these spoons I now find I was overestimating sometimes too. Just how inconvenient is it to measure 1/2 cup of yogurt and get it into your bowl? In a regular measuring cup, it's nearly impossible, and in a separate 1/2 cup straight-sided measure you need a spatula to get it out of there and it's not easy.
I looked and looked for something that would fill my need. I have measuring cups for baking, the straight-sided kind, to scoop out a 1/2 cup of flour for example, but none really worked easily for my diet portion measuring. I love this set beyond reason for that purpose. I can scoop out 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or yogurt from its container and dump it pretty easily into my bowl with a minimum of scraping. Then I can slice strawberries directly into the measure as it rests on my counter until it's full with 1/2 cup of those, and dump them in. Rinse off and I'm done. Turns out 1/2 cup of cottage cheese is more than I thought and my fruit and dairy breakfast now fills me up. I was eating too little before and then snacking :(
I don't use the 1/4 cup or 1/8 cup measure as much, but couldn't live without the bigger ones. Scooping out 1 cup of soup from the pot is a breeze. I'm so fond of these big spoons, I'm buying another set as a gift to a dieting friend. The spoon shape is ideal for measuring veggie and fruit portions as well other things and I know it's just perception, but the portion looks like a lot more in this measuring shape. The small flat bottom allows it to sit on the counter if needed without spilling and the nice handle lets you scoop things out of a pot more easily.
