I bought this eggtimer with a little bit of hesitation - how can it know the degree of cooking? But it works! I have made hard-boiled, and soft-boiled. They all came out as hoped.
I did find, though, that I need to wait until the dark ring goes a teensy bit past the line that you want. Maybe it's just mine that does that. But with that in mind, the eggs still come out great.
All those years of guessing, and now it comes down to a $5 gadget. Definitely worth throwing one in your basket in your next Amazon order.

The Norpro Egg Rite Timer has never failed me. It is perfectly accurate every time I use it. Drop it in the water, and know EXACTLY what stage of done-ness your eggs are at any time. My eggs are now always free of any green tint (from being overdone) and the yolks are creamy.
I truly love this gadget, and I hardly ever say that in reviews. It works without fail, it's easy to clean, is too small to create clutter, and it's inexpensive. What else could you want? You should definitely buy this, unless you don't boil eggs.

I went looking for a kitchen timer for my nephew when I came across this little beauty. I read the reviews, liked what everyone said, didn't know they have been around for a zillion years and said why not. I needed to make deviled eggs for Christmas snacking so I would give it a try and the price was good. I bought 3, one for me and 2 for gifts. What a great little idea this was. This is awesome. I have tried in the past to make hard boiled eggs and they never turn out like my Mom's. I just gave up. I would crave hard boiled eggs at times though, so I had to bother my mother. I went looking on google one day (fool proof hard boiled eggs) I found this gadget and said what the heck it is not expensive. This gadget is awesome. It makes the best eggs. I've owned the Egg Timer for about six months and it truly does make perfect eggs every time. I make a batch of half a dozen eggs twice a week, and my only complaint is the plastic smell. But honestly, the eggs are so good, I don't even care. At medium hard, the yolks are creamy with just the tiniest bit of dark yellow at the center and the whites are firm and smooth without being rubbery. I actually get excited about talking about hard boiled eggs with my friends. I plan on getting everyone one for Christmas.
