This is the best one I've found anywhere. It's built well, looks nice, and doesn't smell, even when I haven't taken the contents out to the compost pile for a week.
Because the item's title says "composter", I should warn the less experienced that you cannot complete the compost process inside this bucket. This is a storage container used to hold scraps of food, so you don't have to run out to the back yard every time you eat a banana.

I love this bin for my kitchen, it lasts 5 or so days in my household of three people. I have not had any problems with smells, the filter really works, or course there is a smell when you open it, but not as much as it would be without the filter. Looks nice enough that I don't mind it in view in my kitchen. It has a sturdy feel to it, I think it will hold up over time.Customer Review: love it!

attractive enough to sit on a counter, this compost bucket is the perfect size for keeping in the cabinet under the sink, while being large enough to hold many days worth of compostibles. the stainless steel is easy to clean and doesn't absorb odors, and the filter in the lid keeps the bucket odor free. additionally, i have had no problems with fruit flies.Customer Review: Stainless Composter

The Norpro Grip-EZ is a great little composter for the kitchen. It's well built and easy to clean. I have been using it for about 3 months. Keeping the organic waste out of the regular trash really helps keep odors down in the kitchen. This is a great container to hold compost. I am a teacher and purchased it for my classroom. Sometimes we change it every few days and it is great at "containing" the odor of the food inside. It opens up easily has a comfortable handle even for younger kids. I would recommend this over the plastic ones.
