Customer Review: Good idea, but poor design

I love the concept of this mellon cutter, and I thought I would find several uses for it. Unfortunately, it does not work well for what it was intended to do. It does not cut all the way through the mellon. It has serrated edges that are recessed just slightly, but enough to keep them for slicing all the way through the mellon.
I thought it might work to turn it over to the straight edge, but the handles will not allow it to work that way.
I did get my mellon cut, but it was cumbersome and took additional steps, that should not have been required. I tried it on cantaloupe and watermellon, and the results were the same.
Otherwise, it looks nice, and appears well made.
