Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Norpro Meat Grinder, Mincer, and Pasta MakerCustomer Review: Nice little grinder for the price. Summary: 4 Stars
I'm not sure why this grinder got so many mixed reviews. I got this two weeks ago and have used it several times with no problems. Of course I'm not grinding 50 pounds of meat at a time, but for a small family or couple, this one works fine. I've done ground meat and poultry with no issues. I haven't tried to make pasta with it yet, but don't think I'll have problems with that either. The suction works very good on my formica counter and even works on my wood table. I thought it would be hard to crank the meat through it, but since the blades are very sharp the meat goes through without any problem. The cleanup is a breeze. I've read that it's best to wash meatgrinder attachments with bleach (for sanitary reasons), I use vinegar for all disinfecting of cleaning supplies, mostly because it's a natural product and I don't have to worry about chemicals. I purchased a small plastic bin from our local Dollar store and all the parts fit in there nicely. If you are looking for a high powered machine, this is not the one for you, but if you want to quickly grind up 1-2 pounds of meat this is ideal. I'll probably get an electric high powered machine sometime in the future, but I believe this one will continue to be used for those times when I only need to grind a small amount.
Customer Review: Very Nice Grinder Summary: 4 Stars
Based upon a previous review with a picture of a damaged unit I was very dubious about ordering this item, but since I liked the features / price I decided to go ahead and take a chance. I followed the instructions slicing the meat into strips and used the grinder. It worked perfectly, grinding 3 pounds of beef without a problem. After use I took the unit apart and it was still in perfect condition. The only thing I can think is the person with the damaged picture must not have installed the bushing as shown in the book, or possibly over tightend the end cap which created excess friction.
Some of the features I like:
1. The suction base - it provided a nice secure connection to the table.
2. Easy to use and clean.
3. The instruction manual was very complete and included a pasta recipe.
Customer Review: GREAT item! Summary: 4 Stars
This item is great! I have used it several times since I purchase it, and it has done a wonderful job. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars rather than 5 is because I have not tried to make pasta with it, not will I. I bought it to grind meat, so I can control and trim most of the fat, and it does that wonderfuly. I think I already made my money back with all that I have saved buying those expensive 'lean' ground beef/chicken/ turkey at the supermarket. I will say that I put through very little to no fat, so I don't know how this aparatus would react to tendons and such. I have not made sausages, but I have ground somewhat fatty (marbeled) cuts of pork and it has done great.
Customer Review: Good bang for the buck Summary: 4 Stars
Here is my review, in bullet point format:
- Item came in in good condition and on-time delivery
- Mostly plastic components, medium duty built
- Used it to grind 5 lbs of lamb and so far so good
- Come also with pasta extruder and sausage funnel
- Transparent plastic housing allows to see thru, good feature
- Vacuum cup holds in place good (I have granite counter top)
Go for it, best bang for the buck!
Enjoy!
Customer Review: Performs well, But it is not Made in the USA Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this product for making miso paste. We use it to grind the cooked soybean. It is very easy to set up, use, and clean. My mother has no problem cranking away 1 and half gallons worth of soybean paste. She is almost 70 and she felt that it was easy on her joints. The plastic is good quality plastic and the unit is nice and compact. I would have given it a 5 stars review, but the unit is made in China and not in the USA as advertised.
