Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Norpro Ravioli Maker and PressCustomer Review: very happy with this ravioli maker Summary: 5 Stars
This ravioli maker is simple and easy to use, almost foolproof. I use my pasta machine to roll out the pasta sheet (I find it works best on the 2nd to thinnest setting), just place the sheet on top of the mold, make the pockets with the press, fill, lay another sheet on top and run over it with the rolling pin. The ravioli pop right out if you use a little spray on the mold. It makes very nice sized ravioli and takes a lot less time than to try to make these by hand. Just make sure to get all the air pockets out and you won't have any that blow up during cooking. I make several batches at a time and freeze them in a single layer on a cookie sheet before bagging them. I just pull them out of the freezer and toss directly in boiling water, instant meal. Great product!
Customer Review: Don't make ravioli without it! Summary: 5 Stars
This takes all the guesswork out of making raviolis - I wouldn't dare make filled pasta without it. Simply make your pasta, place it on the metal grid, then gently nudge indentations into the dough with the plastic press, fill, cover with dough and then roll with a rolling pin to seal it shut. I've never had issues with my raviolis sticking to the mold - usually a gentle tap with the finger and they fall right out - but maybe my dough is drier than most peoples' dough? I also don't bother sealing with egg wash and haven't had any issues. That being said, other reviewers have suggested using either flour or cooking spray to aid in the release of the pasta and using an egg wash to help seal the dough. That should do the trick!
Customer Review: Great Ravioli Plate! Summary: 5 Stars
This ravioli plate and press is great. Does exactly what its supposed to do just make sure you spray it with some cooking spray first. The directions are lacking but there is a youtube video ( [...] ) that explains how to use it. As others have stated DO NOT put it in the dishwasher it says that on the box by the way or you'll ruin it. I do have a problem with the recipe directions on the box where it says to fill your ravioli and let them dry for 2 hours, don't do that! filled pastas should never be left out to dry out, they will spoil. Other than that this is a good product. If your new to pasta making I suggest getting a pasta rolling machine because my first experience rolling pasta dough out by hand was very frustrating.
Customer Review: Love this simple, effective and inexpensive tool! Summary: 5 Stars
I used it for the first time yesterday. Made 4 dozen each meat ravioli, and butternut squash ravioli. My first couple of times they were a little messy but then were just perfect. My husband really liked the meat ones.
I have made ravioli without any sort of tools before, and although they tasted fine. They really lacked uniformity.
These looked really nice when presented with the sauce.
The only drawback is that the rack could really use some rubber feet to hold it in place when you are using the rolling pin over it. Luckily, we had some little sticky ones here at the house from the office supply, that worked pretty well.
I look forward to making some other varieties.
Customer Review: Love This Summary: 5 Stars
I was a bit nervous when trying this as I am a first time ravioli maker. But this honestly worked great. A few helpful tips to make the job easier. Be sure to liberally flour the bottom part of the press before placing your first pasta sheet on it. Also, brush an egg wash around all areas that will be seamed. You have to roll with a bit of pressure, but the ravioli will come right out of the mold when turned over and tapped lightly if you use this method.
A Kitchen Aid pasta roller works great when used in conjunction with this. There is a little overhang of the pasta sheets on the sides of the mold, but trim it off, slice it in strips, and you have homemade noodles!
