Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Norpro Silicone Pastry Mat with Measures

Customer Review: Good mat, could use more markings
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this as a replacement to for a non-silicone pastry mat that ripped after 2 uses. It also had some weird PVC-like smell, which made us a bit nervous. The silicone is quite nice and it folds up and stores much more easily than the previous mat. While it is comforting to know that I could throw the mat right in the oven (up to 450F), we don't own a baking sheet that is big enough to put it on. If you are a serious baker or happen to have a large baking sheet, the oven friendliness will be of much more value to you.

The only complaint I have (and the reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars) is that the markings are not as numerous as on our previous mat. It would have been nice to see some cm markings (or at least some simple conversion printed on the mat). Our old mat also had the diameters marked for "9 inch pie" which was handy because you don't really want a 9" diameter crust when you are making a 9" pie. Nevertheless, this the fact that it is silicone and much easier to store makes it a winner in my book. The price was also right so you can't go wrong here.

Customer Review: Works for pie dough!
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had this for about 3 years now and it's replaced the plastic wrap that I once used to make pie crusts. I have very little problems with sticking, I had no problems with creasing, or bleeding ink (yuck)!
If you flour the surface just like any other pie mat you need less flour and it works just fine.

I would definitely recommend these to any household, but would not cut on them (I'm not sure why anyone would think these would hold up to cutting though, they're soft, flexible rubber).

Customer Review: Great mat!
Summary: 4 Stars

Norpro Silicone Pastry mat This is a great mat. Soft and pliable, sticks to the surface without sliding around, folds up to a small size, and yet straightens out when you want it, cleans easily, you can even bake on it, though I haven't tried that yet. The only thing I would say is that it could be just a little bigger, or I would give it 5 stars.

Customer Review: Clearly Marked, Clearly Better
Summary: 4 Stars

Except if I forget to dampen the counter before putting this down, I have a well marked, clean surface to roll out dough. I hang it over the drawer handle that houses my baking pans. That way, it doesn't get creased.

I've also used it, after a light flour dusting, to sit the bread on while it raises. I cover it with my lintless towel. Saves putting it in a bowl after taking it out of the bread machine.

Customer Review: Good for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

Its not a great product, its a bit thin. But its a good size to work on and it gets the job done. I use it as a non stick surface for break making and so far I'm happy with it for that purpose. Haven't used it for pie crust yet but I don't see why it wouldn't work. But I certainly wouldn't use it for a baking mat. Get something like a Silpat for that. Its in a totally different league.
