Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Norpro Silicone Pastry Mat with Measures

Customer Review: Ink Turns things blue
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased two of these a couple of years ago. I gave one as a gift and kept one. The ink on the one I gave as a gift rubbed off onto the pie crust from the very first time. Me DDL threw it out. Mine did not have that problem, but I cut through it when cutting cinnamon rolls. So my son gave me two new ones, I rolled out noodles and tortillas about a dozen times and then when I wiped it with a damp paper towel, the ink came off like crazy and literally turned the towel blue. It looks like it is only printed on one side so probably the other side would be safe to roll on but it worries me that the ink will come off the bottom side and stain my table top. I am also concerned about the health issues of traces of the ink in the things I have rolled out before now. I will no longer use this product.

Customer Review: Ink rubs off on hands and dough
Summary: 2 Stars

I received this as a gift, but it is not one I will give to others. I was very disappointed to find that the blue ink rubs off very easily from this mat. If the ink is not to be permanent, it should, at least, have been printed on the side that rests on the counter rather than the side that touches the pastry. My hands came up very blue after smoothing it down on the counter and the ink also came off on the dish towel. I don't feel good about this even if the ink is not toxic. It sticks well to the counter and the markings are convenient, but it soon will not have markings at all and I don't like to think that I am eating ink in my pie crusts.

I like the way the silicone sticks to the counter top, but would prefer to spend a bit more to get one that doesn't rub ink off.

Customer Review: Very bad quality. Cheaply made, sticky, and tore right out of the package!
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this item at a local specialty store and paid plenty for it. It is my third pastry mat of it's type and I am disappointed. When I opened the package it appeared to have "melted" to itself and was impossible to separate. It tore before I could even use it! I did go ahead and use the main piece of it but everything stuck and I was very unimpressed. From this point forward I will stick to the wood pastry boards or flour sack towel on the counter. I contacted Norpro customer service and they said I could pay to ship it back and they would replace it, but when I considered that I didn't like it that much anyway, and it would not want to pay another dollar amount for shipping to have it replaced. It had cost me enough already.

I highly recommend staying away from this product. It is supposed to be heat safe to 400 degrees, but if it stuck together in the packaging and melted to itself, was it truly stored at greater than 400 degrees? Just not a good product.

Customer Review: Turns everything blue
Summary: 1 Stars

I didn't even attempt to roll pastry out on this. After reading several reviews I decided to test whether the blue markings would contaminate the pastry so according to instructions I washed the mat before use. The first time I touched the mat I got blue dye all over my fingers, not to mention a blue tea towel when I tried drying the mat. DO NOT waste your money on this product. Save up and get something which won't turn everything blue.

Customer Review: cheap and flimsy
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased two of these and both came with creases that I can't get out and pie dough still sticks to it; especially butter pastry. The third time that I used one at my son's restaurant, I picked it up off of the counter and the entire right side ripped off. (The day before Thanksgiving and I had about a dozen pies to make!)So I guess I will order something a little thicker and more expensive.
