Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Norpro Silicone Pie Crust Shield

Customer Review: You get what you pay for (if you're lucky)
Summary: 1 Stars

I've been baking pies and making my own crusts for over 35 years, and I have always used strips of foil to keep the crust rim from getting too brown before the pie is done. I noticed the "Norpro Silicon Pie Crust Shield" at a cook store website, and it looked like a really good idea. I knew I could probably get it cheaper at Amazon, so I went there and bought it. I bake 9" pies, and I was amazed at how something that looked so promising DID NOT WORK at all! My crust edges were over browned as if I had not covered them at all. I'm back to the foil.

I noticed that quite a few reviews gave this thing a 5 star rating, and it makes me wonder if those people actually used it, or if they were talking about the same product. I hope that this review keeps you from making the same mistake I did. Fortunately,it was just a few bucks.

Customer Review: Not sized as advertized!
Summary: 1 Stars

The description for this item says "ideal for pies up to 10 inches" -- but this shield doesn't fit on any of my pie plates, including my 9" and 9.5" plates. The shield itself is indeed 10" in diameter, but every pie pan and plate I've ever encountered is measured by the diameter of the BOTTOM of the plate, so the diameter of the edges is more like 11-13", and this shield doesn't fit. It looks like a nice product -- just too small so I returned it. And to Amazon's credit, returns are simple and painless.

Customer Review: HATED IT !
Summary: 1 Stars

THIS HAS TO BE THE WORST IDEA EVER THOUGHT UP. I BOUGHT THIS TWO MONTH'S AGO AND THREW IT AWAY YESTERDAY. IT KEPT BURNING THE CRUST EDGES AND FLATENING THE CRUST DESIGN. YESTERDAY I MADE TWO PIES, ONE USING THE CRUST COVER AND ONE USING TIN FOIL. THE ONE WITH THE SILICONE COVER BURNED THE CRUST AND THE TIN FOIL WAS PERFECT. WHAT A RIP-OFF.

Customer Review: did not work
Summary: 1 Stars

It still burnt the crust. I have always put foil over my edges to prevent burning. That worked perfectly. Was looking for an easier solution. This product was not the answer.
