We are very happy with this. Yes the little tops are hot, but luckily the pot holder has already been invented! Yes I would purchase a smaller one it they made it, but I just leave out the little cups that aren't needed for a particular batch.

My method for greasing is to take a (clean!) finger and wipe butter in the cool cups. Break the eggs into the cups, then insert them into the holder when the water is ready. Initially I greased the cups and put them in the bath to preheat then cracked the eggs in. This leads to butter (or oil, same result) melting into a little puddle in the bottom and not lubricating the top of the cups as well. Also, breaking the eggs into the cups while they are in the pan leads to less even cooking, I can only crack so fast, and it's a little scarier, if you mis the drop on the egg while in the pan, well, that would be a mess.

I did not want non-stick and I appreciate the construction of this item. Enjoy!

I have a glass stove and was frustrated that my old egg poacher did not cook the eggs enough and that it was not large enough. This cooker is definitely worth the extra money in a number of ways. 1. Now I don't have to try out other cookers. 2. It really cooks the eggs well and evenly. 3. The eggs are so much easier to remove when done. 4. Clean-up is easier and better.
My only complaint is that the pan shows water spots after cleaning, but that is easily solved.

Was determined to find stainless pan and cups with tight-fitting lid or to stop eating eggs. This is a quality product and I have "sold" a few of them to friends who see it and want one. I do find the black handles to be extremely hot so one needs a mit or cloth to remove the cups. Small price to pay for the best eggs on earth.
