Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Norpro Stainless-Steel Citrus Juice Press

Customer Review: Works great
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought one of the less expensive green aluminum juicers and it broke in the middle of the first lime. This is solidly built and I expect it to last for a very long time. Also, it's longer handle means it's easier to use.

UPDATE: It's been about 4.5 years since I bought this and it still works (and looks) like new. We go through about a dozen lemons and limes each week which comes out to over 5,000 uses without any problems. For me, in hindsight, spending a little extra for the Norpro was a good choice.

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews take the place of first-hand experiences that are lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've gotten from other reviewers and continue to return the favor as best as I can. If you thought this review was helpful please let me know by clicking on "Yes" button where it asks. If there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.

Customer Review: Awesome juicer
Summary: 5 Stars

My primary reason for purchasing this juicer was for squeezing limes to make margaritas. I had been squeezing key limes by hand which took forever to get the amount of juice needed. This press saves an enormous amount of time and pain. One quick squeeze gets every last drop of juice out of the limes. I have started to use it for bigger limes and lemons and it continues to work great.

The stainless steel construction feels solid, much better than some of the cheaper plastic ones I have seen, and the handles allow you to get plenty of leverage. The higher price was definitely worth the quality of the product.

In case you buy this just to make margaritas like I did, here is a simple recipe to get you started:
4 parts tequila
2 parts triple sec
1 part mexican key lime juice
1 part simple syrup (2 cups sugar dissolved into 1 cup boiling water, then cooled)

Customer Review: This is the best
Summary: 5 Stars

I already had a citrus fruit press similar to this that is enameled aluminum. I bought this one because it is stainless steel and can be run through the dishwasher (unlike the enameled aluminum). Even though they appear to be very similar in dimension, this stainless steel model operates so much easier. It allows a better grip of your hand and inverts even the smallest key lime, where the enamel one slips in your hand and doesn't invert the smaller fruits and thus doesn't squeeze them efficiently. I really only bought this one because of the dishwasher capability and my dislike of using aluminum with acids, as there are always little chips that develope in the enamel coating. I was pleasantly suprised by the better functioning of this citrus press, and the quality of it is superb. It is a heavy stainless steel with a mirror polished finish.

Customer Review: Great juicer to replace an electric one!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just recently received this juice press, and have to say I am impressed.

Its big enough to easily fit average sided lemons, and can see it working for smaller oranges.

The main advantages to this over the electric juicer I had been using are:

* It's fast! (10second to juice it, quick press)
* lots of juice (it looks like it provides more juice than the electric reamer juicer)
* Nice looking (Something you could keep out for display, but actually useful as well)

The only disadvantages I can see are:

* Would be nice to have a bigger one to also use for large oranges/ Grapefruit
* The metal isn't as thick as the picture looks- seems strong enough though

I would definitely recommend this over an electric citrus juicer!

Customer Review: Good, solid product. But, it does spray juice fairly often.
Summary: 5 Stars

I've only had it a couple of weeks, and used it maybe 15 or 20 times, but so far it is holding up well. My major fear was that I'd just snap it, I have fairly strong hands and try to wring the last little bit of juice out, and this shows no signs that it isn't going to hold up to use.

However, quite frequently, probably at least half the time I use it, juice will spray out from between the two halves -- even with the cut side down. It's definitely worse with the cut side up (I tried it that way once, just to see what would happen). But sometimes the skin ruptures and sprays juice out.

I resolve this by putting one hand right up on the handles by where the lemon is, and the other further out -- the one closer in tends to block most of the spray from getting onto my clothes.
