Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Norpro Stainless Steel Scoop, 50mm (3-Tablespoon)Customer Review: meatballs and cookies Summary: 4 Stars
I use this to make cookies and also meatballs, it's just the right size. The scoop is stainless and well constructed, would buy it again.
Customer Review: Not good for ice cream Summary: 3 Stars
I notice this item is not billed as an ice cream scoop. Odd since it is the classic ice cream scoop design. It's probably fine for cookie dough or even sherbet that is softer than ice cream, but for ice cream it is not sturdy enough. The all metal construction seems like it would be better than other scoops of this design that use plastic gears, but unfortunately under heavy use even these metal gears slip and the scoop fails. The problem is that when you really have some tough ice cream, when you squeeze the handle to activate the scraper that will release the cream from the scoop, the resistance of the cream causes you to have to squeeze hard. When you squeeze hard enough, the rack of teeth gives a little bit against the brace that holds the rack against the gear, and the rack slips. Once that happens, the gears lose their synchronization and then you need to repair the scoop. Despite not being sturdy enough to handle the ice cream, it is plenty sturdy enough to resist being repaired. It's difficult, and then it just fails again anyway.
Customer Review: NOT 2 tablespoon scoop! Summary: 3 Stars
This scoop seems of good quality (though I haven't used it yet, I do have the 2 teaspoon scoop by Norpro which I'm happy with), but the scoop holds way MORE than 2 tablespoons -- it's more like 2 1/2 - 3 tablespoons. What is most surprising is that even the tag that comes with the product states clearly that it holds 2 tablespoons -- wrong!! Didn't the manufacturers bother to confirm this "minor" little detail? If you're seeking accuracy, don't buy this product. Also, there is no way that it would be durable enough to scoop ice cream. Stick to scooping soft things like cookie dough and mashed potatoes, and you'll be happy with this product.
Customer Review: 3 Tlbs cookie dough scoop Summary: 3 Stars
This scoop is the perfect size for BIG cookies, but is hard to grip and hold on to. A better scoop (the same size) is made by OXO, and has silicone grips. So be sure to look at the OXO before you buy this one. Oxo Good Grips Medium Cookie Scoop.
Customer Review: Sticky Operation Summary: 3 Stars
The scoop has a nice hefty feel and the finish is good but the operation of the lever is poor. It seems to stick making it difficult to release the dough.
